Born & raised in Nova Scotia, I have lived in Antigonish, London, Toronto, Ottawa & Halifax. As a national magazine writer I covered business, lifestyles, sports and development issues. I researched and wrote the first investigative piece on Indian Residential Schools in Canada.
I am an active blogger, struggling screenwriter, passionate essayist, and aspiring novelist. I have been nominated for National Magazine Awards and received a prestigious William Southam/Canadian Journalism Fellowship.
After working for many years as a freelancer, I dreamt up a new business: Story-based Consulting.
My title is Virtual VP, Strategic Communications.
My mission is to use storytelling backed by strategy to affect positive change for individuals, organizations & communities.
On the road to here, I founded a funky little speakers series ("The Ink Tank"; 1995-present), a kool non-profit for kids (UP Basketball; 2013-present), and helped run two successful charitable organizations.
I partner with great people to tell meaningful stories.
Need an example or two? Well, there was the healthcare entrepreneur who was navigating the global pandemic while expanding his business... The sports-tech CEO who sold his company but not his soul... And the young African-Nova Scotian politician who wasn't supposed to get elected but did (twice), and put 'diversity' into solid, civic action.
The next story I help tell could be yours. Let's talk.
